Quick Tip #55: Do You Make These Club Fitting Mistakes?
|
When you think about it, there are two ways to approach club fitting advice.
One points out what you should do, while the other focuses on what you shouldn’t do. For some of us, being reminded of what not to do makes a bigger impression.
So with that in mind, let me give you my list of the three biggest mistakes most players make when buying golf equipment...
1. Do you buy drivers with too little loft?
Without a doubt, this is the number one mistake most players make when buying a new driver. Unless you have a swing speed over 105 mph, resist the temptation to buy a driver with 9° of loft or less.
Even high swing speed players like Vijay Singh use more loft now.
2. Are you still playing long irons instead of hybrids?
If you haven’t gotten on the hybrid band wagon, read what Champions Tour player Dana Quigly has to say – “I've got a 22-degree Adams Idea prototype hybrid. Explain to me again why you carry a 3-iron and I don't”.
Enough said.
3. Do you play with shafts that are too stiff?
Most players automatically choose stiff shafts, but that’s not a great idea for most of us. What does more flex give you? Two things; better feel and improved ball striking. Both go hand in hand.
