Quick Tip #75: The Easiest, Most Effective Equipment Change You Can Make
|
These days, you'd imagine that it would be pretty easy to find a user friendly set of irons.
But strangely, most iron sets still come in traditional 3 through pitching wedge setups. With the emphasis on hybrid woods and irons, that configuration doesn't make sense for most players.
Sure, game improvement designs make the long and middle irons more playable. But I can't understand why an inadequate set makeup prevails when a better arrangement exists that benefits fully 75% of all golfers.
Let's face it, your goal is to get the ball as close to the hole as possible. If your driver swing speed is 85 mph or lower, ditch your 3, 4 and 5 irons and replace them with hybrids. You might also want to consider your 6 iron as well.
Slower swing speeds may want to opt for hybrid woods, slightly faster swings, hybrid irons. Hybrid woods have a more compliant, or user friendly feel.
Either way, since most of your approaches are likely to fall within these yardage ranges, I guarantee you'll notice an improvement in your greens hit per round.
