Quick Tip #76: A Secret to Help Power Up Your Drives

Want to show up at the golf course tomorrow and add 10 yards to your drives?

That's a dumb question... of course you would.

Generally speaking, whenever you go on a quest for the magic golf club you’ll be facing a fair amount of trial and error on the range to get things just right.

By the time you've spent an hour or two comparing drivers you start to wonder if you're making any progress.

Want to save some time and effort?

Then what you want to do is determine your Smash Factor, get on a launch monitor and fine tune that number.

Simply stated, Smash Factor is the ratio of ball speed divided by clubhead speed. Or, how efficient your swing is with a particular club.

The Smash factor to aim for is 1.50, which is highly efficient. And fortunately, the biggest gains can be made by players with average swing speeds. It's somewhat rare for tour players to exceed that number. But most of us can actually get very close, or achieve it, with a little time comparing drivers.

Tour players with swing speeds under 110 mph pay particular attention to this number. And so should you.

If you haven't already done so, get on a launch monitor and work on finding a driver with the highest Smash Factor number.

It's one of the easiest and most effective things you can do to get an extra 10 yards on your drives.
